Soft artist’s books by Misaki Kawai
From multimedia artist Misaki Kawai comes two new zines, Nepali Special and Gold Friend.
Bound with colorful pom poms along the spine, Misaki Kawai’s Gold Friend chronicles the artist’s recent travels through Nepal. In 100 editions, the artist’s book has charming details like handmade paper and pompom binding, bound to sell out like the rest of Kawai’s zines.
Each copy of Misaki Kawai’s Nepali Special is unique object, bound with fabric embellishments and handmade paper that bears a slight scent of Nepalese incense. On each page is mounted a hand-cut printed drawing featuring one of Kawai’s whimsical characters: campily glamorous men and women with “star” or “my style” written across their chests, muscular athletes, bikini-clad dancers, and a few newcomers inspired by the artist’s recent travels.
